Welcome to the ESS!

The University of Algarve’s School of Health Sciences (ESSUAlg) was created in June 2003 and was part of the former Faro School of Nursing (Ordinance 476/2003, of 11 June).

In 2003, in addition to the nursing course taught in the Algarve since 1971, the ESSUAlg took on the current course in Dietetics and Nutrition, which had been taught at the University of Algarve’s former School of Technology since 1997, and began offering higher education in Laboratory Analyses and Public Health, Pharmacy, Radiology and Speech Therapy. In September 2005, the Orthopedics course began to be taught, in partnership with the former School of Technology at the University of Algarve.

All ESSUAlg courses were adapted to the Bologna Process in the 2008/2009 academic year.

Currently, the ESSUAlg offers First Cycle training in Biomedical Laboratory Sciences, Dietetics and Nutrition, Pharmacy, Nursing, Medical Imaging and Radiotherapy, and Prosthetics and Orthotics.

The ESSUAlg also collaborates in postgraduate training courses and participates in applied research projects and service to the community, within the scope of its areas of competence.

In the scope of teaching and research, the ESSUAlg belongs to the following networks:
