My main research interests lie in the field of modelling fine sediment transport in coastal and shelf areas, sediment-hydro dynamics’ interactions and coastal morphodynamics and circulation. In the framework of my doctoral thesis, I studied the physical processes that control the fate of fine sediments in the marine environment, processes that were included in a comprehensive mathematical model. After completing my PhD (11/2009; Department of Civil Engineering, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), Greece), I received a scholarship from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation in the context of extending the modelling framework of my thesis towards the formulation of a coupled circulation-sediment transport model (2011). From 2012 up to early 2013, I had the opportunity of working as a postdoctoral researcher in IFREMER on coupling hydro-, sediment and seagrass dynamics in a holistic modelling approach that expresses the complex interactions between these environments in coastal lagoons, which was applied in the Arcachon Basin (France). From April 2013 to August 2016, I was as a postdoctoral researcher at the Laboratory of Maritime Engineering and Maritime Works (LMEMW) of AUTh, working on scientific projects related with modelling storm surge variability under climate change conditions (CCSEAWAVS) and coastal circulation prognoses (Wave4us). As of September 2016, I am a postdoctoral researcher at the Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CIMA) of the University ofAlgarve (UAlg), working on the ‘EVREST - Evolution and Resilience of barrier island systems’ project and currently on the ‘ENLACE - Exploring New approaches to simuLAte long-term Coastal Evolution’ project.
During and after my doctoral studies, I participated in various international and national research projects in the fields of sediment transport and hydrodynamic modelling, operational forecasting and oceanographic surveying. My work was published in 14 research papers, 3 chapters in collective volumes and 1 book and presented in various scientific conferences. I have supervised two MSc dissertations (Hellenic Open University) and co-supervised another (UAlg).
