Ana Gomes
I have obtained my Licentiate degree in Biology and Geology in 2008 at the University of Algarve. Building on my background knowledge, my PhD thesis, was the first attempt to use diatoms to track past environmental changes on the southern Portuguese coast during the Holocene and has thus far resulted in several publications in international peer-reviewed scientific journals. After completing my PhD at the University of Algarve, I was working as Post-doc fellow both in the CIMA and in ICArEHB and presently I am a researcher at ICArEHB. Since I finished my PhD, I have mostly been dedicated to the study of paleoenvironmetal changes in Mozambique and their impacts in the Human evolution and behavior. Owing to the high impact of my research, I have been invited on visits to other European universities (e.g. UK, Poland and Australia). I have been involved in several projects with multiproxy, interdisciplinary approaches, where I had the opportunity to establish several international collaborations. I also have experience in teaching activities, and I contribute for the science divulgation and management. My main research interests are: (i) Diatom species and their ecology; (ii) Paleoenvironmental reconstructions; and (iii) Geoarchaeology.
